Coral Sculptures, The Hydrous
3D Printed Corals
The Hydrous is a non-profit group that seeks to provide open access to the world’s oceans by creating and sharing 3D data from coral reefs around the world as a way to better measure and understand the health of this increasingly important ecosystem.
I’m helping The Hydrous bring these beautiful structures into the physical world as a means to educate and inspire. From full-size realistically painted models to bronze-cast sculptures, these objects help to communicate one of coral reefs most valuable tools: their beautiful and complex geometry in a way that can only be fully appreciated by touch and feel.
I’ve also designed a series of small pedestal corals for them to sell in their online store.
The health of the world's ocean is rapidly degrading from the combined effects of climate change and direct human impacts, but how can we protect what we can't see?
At the Hydrous, we're combining virtual reality, 3D printing, and expeditions to share the ocean with everyone and foster emotional connections to marine environments through sensory, immersive experiences.
